The CCTV New Year's Gala, also known as the Spring Festival Gala, and commonly abbreviated in Chinese as Chunwan, it is a Chinese New Year special produced by China Central Television. It has often been described as "the most watched” television program in the world. The special is a variety show, often featuring music, dance, comedy, and drama performances. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and lasts for four hours and half at New Year's Eve.

The gymnastics broadcast, known as “Guang bo ti cao” in Chinese. It is an exercise practiced by Chinese students at school. It first started in the 1950s as a nationwide campaign by the Chinese government for promoting students’ outdoor exercises at school. It became popular and then factories, companies, and government agencies adopted it as a morning exercise for their employees.
